The 1st Roar | Accidental Video / Action for New Bark Town
[It wasn't that his PokéGear was looking particularly tasty that afternoon, nor was it giving off any significantly threatening sort of air...
[No, twas curiosity that caused the cat to chomp down on his hard metal device, succeeding only in unintentionally beginning a broadcast and scaring the absolute piss out of himself.]
What the--!
[Yup. That shiny rock you just bit sure did just make a sound, and now that you've pulled it far away enough from your face to see what's going on on its screen, you...
[...yelp like a little cub and chuck it across the way!
[Goooood going.]

[Video] it's okay!
Don't worry, the box is perfectly safe. It is like a letter, only it arrives right away and you can see the person on the other side. [He pauses.] Or like a telephone, if those have been invented yet where you are from.
Are you all right?
no subject
[Sorry, Mr. Rock, but lions don't use letters or telephones.]
no subject
[...yeah he really doesn't know the specifics. Napoleonic-era over here.]
But I am in a different city than you are, and this device lets the people here talk to each other when they are far away.
no subject
Like lightning?
[Whatever you say, crazy talking rock.]
no subject
[Yep, Kovu. You've got yourself a crazy talking rock made of lightning.]
If I may ask, where are you from, and what year is it?
no subject
I'm from the Pridelands.
no subject
I am from England, where it is the year 1805. Although the place you and I are in now is called Johto, and it is 2013 instead.
Ah...and I am called Temeraire. What is your name?
no subject
It's Kovu.
...What do you mean the year 1805? Are you counting?
no subject
I am not sure who started the counting. But it's everyone who counts them, I suppose. And if years are numbered, that makes keeping track of what happened in them much neater.
no subject
[:/]
What passed is past. What's the point in keeping track?
[That's not to say you should forget the past entirely, but the idea of assigning specific numbers to specific years in order to keep track of every little event...it's just a little hard for him to wrap his mind around.]

no subject
That's what you are?
[It's more of a statement than a question, really.]
no subject
[He tilts his head, looking intrigued.]
Are there no humans at all in the Pridelands? What were you?
no subject
I mean, there were monkeys, baboons, chimpanzees...things like humans, but...
[He frowns, staring down at his new hands, legs...]
Nothing like this.
[Glancing back at the Gear.]
And no dragons, either...
[At least, he doesn't think so...He doesn't even know what those are.]
I'm a lion.
[Note the explicit use of present tense.]
no subject
And it is difficult to get used to being a human, but it is not...all bad, I suppose. Hands are very useful, once you get the hang of them. But walking on two legs is not so easy.
[He shakes his head.] I still do not see why we should all need to be turned into humans.
no subject
I don't need to be.
[He doesn't need to be a human, he doesn't need to be here...
[He remembers this with a frustrated growl.]
What I need is to get home.
no subject
I have been told by several people that when we do return, it will be to the same time that we left from. As impossible as it sounds, it is the best hope we have here.
no subject
It is impossible...
How could they know that, anyway?
It doesn't make any sense...
